I am Walter G.

I am a Software Engineer / Web Developer from Los Angeles, CA.

I have a bachelors degree 👨‍🎓 in Computer Science and have been actively programming for over 17 years.

After leaving the corporate world, I co-created a web development agency which later morphed into my first startup venture in 2016.

Since 2018, I have also been an instructor for the coding bootcamp Thinkful.

Why I got into coding

As corny as it sounds, it all began when I was 5 years old. I'd like to think that this is true for everyone. And that those 5 year olds knew what they were doing. Growing up we never had any excess amounts of funds lying around. So I won't lie to you and tell you that I had the Commodore 64 and wrote my first app at 6.

But I did know that whatever a computer was, I wanted in on it. I stayed up at 2am watching Apple Macintosh infomercials for years trying to decipher in my minds eye what this computing device was capable of. Weekly, the mailman would drop off pounds upon pounds of "Information Packets" that I would call Apple for. They just sent them to any 5 year old willing to call I guess.

I didn't get my first personal computer until the age of 17 roughly, years after all of my friends had theirs. The first thing I did was download every piece of softwared known to man. The very next year, there I was in line at University filling out forms and checking the "Computer Science" box under my selected major.

Since that day, I have been involved in software development pretty much every day without skipping a beat.
