I.T.'s Down To You, But These Pros And Cons Could Help You Decide

No matter what your enterprise, the chances are that you use IT often. It may be that you work with remote staff who can only communicate with you online. Or, perhaps you own an office, and staff spend large portions of the day on computers. Even in the retail sector, IT is essential for online sales and keeping up with customers.

As such, it makes sense that many companies choose to hire in-house IT consultants who can fix issues as they arise. This way, they can ensure issues are fixed as soon as possible.

But, hiring IT staff isn’t always a simple choice. While there are obvious plus points, there are also cons which many employers can’t look past. Hence why more and more companies are opting for IT Outsourcing Services or remote contractors instead. This way, they can rest easy that they have the technical support they need, without worrying about hiring.

If you’re torn between which option would be best for you, we’re going to look at the pros and cons of employment like this. If you still think it’s worth hiring someone after reading these, you can go ahead. But, if you find yourself more convinced by the con section, it might be time to look elsewhere.

PROS

  • Always having someone on site ensures they can address issues promptly. You won’t have to wait for outside repairs. Instead, you can call across the office and find a solution.
  • Having someone in-house ensures they understand your business. As such, they may be able to suggest improvements to the way you use your technology. This could include website improvements or different programs which would work better.
  • A constant IT presence can monitor the safety of your computers during the working day. Any viruses or risky websites can be addressed and avoided straight away.
  • You can learn from whoever you hire by watching how they work and asking questions. That way, you can start to deal with issues yourself, and won’t have to worry so much if they’re sick, on holiday, etc.

CONS

  • You can’t always guarantee the salary will reflect the work. Some days, there will be multiple issues. Others, your IT staff member may have nothing to do all day. As such, many growing companies can’t afford the cost.
  • You won’t be in a position to train. This individual is going to know their tech more than you do, and that can make things tricky. You won’t be able to provide the support they deserve and will have to rely on their initiative. As such, they may suffer from low morale and unhappiness due to insufficient training.
  • No matter how many basics you learn, you’ll still fly into a panic when said individual is sick or on holiday. What if something major happens while they’re away?
  • Giving someone unfettered access to your computers means letting them into potentially sensitive information. You would need to get the go ahead from the whole office before you could even consider this.
