How to conduct business from your phone

There was a time that the cellphone was just used for communication during times that constituted an emergency. It was considered a luxury to own a cellphone as landline phones were the norm then. But now, telephone and cellphone technology has come a long way from its original purpose.

With the emergence of smartphones, this nifty device has become a daily necessity for many people. While it is still used primarily for communication, it can also be used for entertainment and even for conducting business.

Yes, this small device can be of great value to your business, if you know how to do it right. If you want to maximize your phone, here are some tips to do so.

1. Have a separate phone just for business purposes

You may argue that this is unnecessary, but if you have a phone just for business, you can get your priorities straight. If you use your personal phone, you might get distracted by the other features that you have installed there. You'll be surprised how time-consuming it can be to go through your social media feed. There will also be no security risks in case you have confidential files or company documents.

2. Make sure that the phone is secure

As stated above, security plays a big factor in business. Whether you own your own business or you are employed by a company, you want to make sure that your device is secure and that only you will be able to access the information that has to do with your business. There are many security features that you can research. Figure out what will work for you. You may need to purchase the features, but it will be worth it.

3. Download necessary apps that you can use

One of the great things about the smartphone is the apps that you can download. There are app versions of most office suites so you can access documents easily. You can even send and receive a fax on your phone, just make sure that you have the correct fax number, especially if sending to another country. You may want to get an app that allows you to remotely access your desktop. This is very convenient especially when you are away from the office and you will need a file. Just remember to not get carried away in downloading apps. Keep it simple and only get the ones that you are really able to use.

4. Follow business hours as much as possible

This is why having a separate work phone is important. When business hours are over, you leave your phone somewhere else and focus on yourself. While phones make it easier for your boss, colleagues or clients to communicate with you, it can also be very taxing and stressful. You need to set your boundaries so that you can also have free time to enjoy and be with your family and friends. It is important to have a good work-life balance or else you will just be burnt out by all the work load.
