What Not To Do When Your Laptop Breaks

What Not To Do When Your Laptop Breaks

A broken laptop is never a pleasant experience. You know how it goes; you’re happily typing away, and then the dreaded blue screen appears. Or, you open up to get to work, and nothing happens. Given the fortune you spent on the thing, this is not a moment you relish. That’s especially the case if you’re a programmer and your income depends upon your access to technology like this. The moment you see that blue screen, you may even see your profits and reputation draining away.

The good news is, it’s usually possible to get back up and running sooner than you might expect. Handle this situation right, and you could face getting back to work in no more than a day or two. At least, you could if you don’t make the following common mistakes.

Getting frustrated

Often, issues which cause a computer to crash are relatively minor. In the majority of cases, they also have pretty easy fixes. The same can’t be said for a computer you destroy by throwing it across the room. Yet, that’s precisely what’ll happen if you allow yourself to grow frustrated about this issue. You may laugh, but we’re all guilty of this at some time or another. You see that blank screen; you try every basic repair you know, and then the panic sets in. Given that the computer is the cause of all this stress, it’ll fast become the outlet for your anger here. The more quick fixes which fail, the more chance there is of you hitting the keyboard or flat out chucking the thing across the room. Trust us; it happens. And, when it does, you can bet that repair job won’t be half as easy as it would’ve been if you had kept your cool.

Trying to fix things yourself

The DIY repair job is another leading cause of worsening the issue. Even if you’re a programmer, don’t assume that you automatically know how to repair a broken laptop. The chances are that you don’t. Of course, there are some basic repair steps anyone can take, and they may see you back up and running. If they don’t work, though, make sure that you accept defeat and contact a company like Dave’s Computers who offer professional laptop repair services. Whatever you do, remember that every elaborate repair attempt could make it less likely your laptop will live to see another day.

Assuming you need a new one

At odds with the other points are those of us who assume any laptop issue means we need a new one. This is a belief which is only strengthened by repair shops who work for profit rather than practicality. In reality, there are few laptop issues which don’t have a solution. While they do exist, they’re few and far between. So, whatever you do, don’t rush out and buy a new one the moment yours doesn’t start. Take the time to seek repairs and save yourself a fortune while you do.
